Walnut grows in North America, Europe and west Asia. European walnut has a lighter colour than the American, with Italian walnut considered to be the lightest.
Walnut has a fine grain and can have a nice drawing. At the places where the roots pass into the trunk a burl can develop. These burls are well known for their usage in dashboards.
